With the support of Barrington Harris and Oral Blagrove and Ricky Jamal (a former student from SBO) from Aquamania, the Dufour 26 ‘Little Poe’ got refurbished in less than two weeks on the Island Water World boatyard.
‘Little Poe’ is joining the St Maarten Sailing School’s growing fleet. Apart from teaching prospective sailors how to sail and sailors how to improve their skills, she will be made freely available to the SBO Foundation Maritime Assistants program in St Maarten.
The SBO aims to prepare young disadvantaged adults for entry level employment within the Marine industry on the island.
A small crowd of SBO students, sailing teachers, captains, members of the SBO, the Marine Industry and the Press as well as Island Water World staff gathered to watch the launch and christening of the vessel.
Garth Steyn, owner of the St Maarten Sailing School, expressed his gratitude to the former owner of the vessel, Alfred, who donated the boat, Rien Korteknie - Educator and Founder of SBO, for his efficient networking and Aquamania, Pelican Marina Residences and Island Water World for their sponsorship support.
Island Water World sponsored the haul-out, storage, and materials needed to underline their commitment to youth training and community support.

The third and last winner of Island Water World’s Online Game prize of a dinghy-outboard combo, worth US $ 3200, is airline pilot Hervé "RV" Nizard, residing on Dominica.
Over the last three years, Hervé, a born Frenchman, has been developing an Eco Resort in La Plaine, on the East Coast of Dominica (www.citruscreekplantation.com). His strong commitment to sustainable development is further outlined by his Alternative Energy Company ‘Sustainable Earth’ which is serving the Caribbean (www.sustainableearth.dm).
Before coming to Dominica, Hervé sailed his catamaran, a Lagoon 380, for two years with his family up and down the Caribbean island chain. Previously Hervé lived for 17 years in Guadeloupe where he still owns Air Tropical.
From November until the end of January every online shopper at Island Water World’s new e-commerce website – www.islandwaterworld.com – was eligible to win a Walker Bay Air Floor Hypalon AF240 Dinghy and a Mercury-5HP-outboard Combo. The game ended in January but Island Water World’s website features daily great give-aways and super online specials!
